It is such a pleasure to work with a professional crew that takes safety seriously, works to improve its crew communication and standardization, and which retrains annually. The carriage driving team at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa in Farmington,
PA. comes to Bundoran to train its new hires and retrain the experienced teamsters, too. After their latest recurent training in 2008, Kenric Butler, Equestrian Center manager, writes us: "I was very happy with your Hotel Crew Training program. I think you put us through the proper paces. It's so easy to cut corners and take short cuts in the name of efficiency, yet so enjoyable to do it right knowing that every precaution was taken to ensure safety and guest service. We came away as a stronger and better team as a result of your program. The team-building aspects of your program will help us in every facet of our equestrian and guest service operation."
From a Nemacolin crew member, (who we nicknamed "Little One" a/k/a "Hulk". She weighs about 80 pounds and can harness and very skillfully drive 4,000 pounds of horses): "... how glad I am that we came to your place in Virginia. I learned so much in just two and half days. There is so much fine detail to driving that I was unaware of the importance. I feel so much more confident in myself as far as the harness, hitching up, the wagons, driving, and working with the horses. You have a great program and you're an amazing instructor, We all got along with you so well and appreciated the joking around because that's exactly how we all are towards each other. You made me feel comfortable with any task and gave me confidence.
"Your positive attitude helped me to accomplish more and stay calm while doing it. When you had me back the wagon into the barn I have to admit that I started to become a little frustrated when I couldn't do it on the first try, but your jokes, words of encouragement and guidance helped me to succeed. Not once, the whole time I was there, did I ever feel like I couldn't accomplish a task. There isn't anything that I would tell you to change about your instructing or program. I'm not just saying that to be nice, it's truly how I feel. I had so much fun and learned more than I ever thought possible to learn in such a short time. Your instruction has turned me into a whole new driver and I appreciate everything you taught me and I know the Nemacolin horses will appreciate it too."
Her co-worker Stephanie adds: "...you were very easy going and fun to learn from, made driving a relaxing job and enjoyable. I really enjoy your teaching style....You compared a lot of subjects to everyday things that we all could relate too, which made it very easy to learn. I love the fact that you trusted us enough to teach us how to drive a unicorn. I really had a blast doing that and learned more than I thought could even be possible from one driving session. With your comparisons, your easy-going nature, and your knowledge, it was an extremely informative three days of training. I came home completely confident ... a great experience."
"I definitely enjoy your teaching style" says Levi, a highly skilled Nemacolin teamster who has trained with us previously. "You know how to keep things light ... but serious when need be. You bring up and drive home the most important aspects of driving. I am glad that I went through the course again, as I was able to correct a few habits that I had picked up since the last time I saw you. Driving the unicorn hitch was a blast. Any chance to build on the skills that I already have is greatly appreciated."
Nemacolin is high in the Laurel Highlands
of western Pennsylvania. The hotel has been open for
years and is a delightful place to visit. Cool in
the summer, with miles of walking trails, it's perfect
for a honeymoon, quiet vacation or just for a Spa
treatment. We love it there. For reservations, give
